A Nigerian woman missing in Qatar has become the subject of an urgent family search after she reportedly disappeared shortly after arriving at Hamad International Airport in Doha from Lagos.
The woman, identified as 37-year-old Saratu Jibo Yusuf, travelled to Qatar on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to reports quoting her brother, Jonathan Jibo. Her family last communicated with her while she was still on the aircraft.
According to Jonathan, someone was waiting for Saratu at the airport when the flight arrived but could not locate her in the arrivals area.
He said airline staff later confirmed that she had collected her luggage, but the family has reportedly been unable to establish contact with her since then.
Family raises alarm
Jonathan raised the alarm publicly on September 4, saying his sister had been unreachable for more than 48 hours after the flight landed.
He appealed for assistance in locating her and shared photographs and details of her journey online in an effort to widen the search.
The family is also seeking access to airport CCTV footage to establish what happened after Saratu reportedly collected her luggage.
According to her brother, Saratu had spent almost 12 years working at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport and was therefore familiar with airport environments.
She travelled to Qatar for work
Reports indicate that Saratu travelled to Qatar to take up employment and had made arrangements for accommodation before leaving Nigeria.
Her brother said the trip was her first time travelling outside Nigeria and that she had independently financed the journey and made preparations ahead of her departure. citeturn1search0turn1search
The family has reportedly contacted people who were involved in arranging her travel and is seeking assistance from relevant authorities in Qatar and Nigeria.
Investigation and search efforts
The circumstances surrounding Saratu’s disappearance remain unclear.
There has been no confirmed indication in the reports reviewed that she was abducted or that a crime had occurred. Her family’s concern is based on the loss of contact with her after her arrival and the inability of the person waiting for her to locate her.
The development has renewed concerns over the vulnerability of travellers who arrive in unfamiliar countries without established support networks.
Authorities have yet to publicly provide a detailed account of Saratu’s whereabouts. The family continues to appeal for information that could help locate her.
Anyone with credible information about Saratu Jibo Yusuf’s whereabouts is being urged to contact her family or the relevant authorities.
