NDC Candidate Accuses LASAA of Removing Her Banners

NDC candidate campaign banners controversy in Lagos has intensified after Dr Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo, the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for Surulere Federal Constituency I, accused the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) of selectively removing her campaign materials ahead of the 2027 elections.

Adebayo made the allegation during an interview with Channels Television, saying supporters alerted her that officials were taking down her banners from several locations across Surulere. Vanguard also reported the allegation on Friday, September 4, 2026.

According to reports, more than 50 campaign banners linked to Adebayo and the NDC were removed during an operation in parts of Surulere. Reports identified areas including Akerele, Shitta, Ogunlana Drive and Adeniran Ogunsanya.

Adebayo alleged that the enforcement action was selective because campaign materials belonging to some All Progressives Congress (APC) politicians remained in place.

She also said she contacted a LASAA representative, who reportedly explained that the poles carrying the banners were Lagos State government property and had been allocated to outdoor advertising practitioners. Adebayo, however, questioned why her materials were removed while some other political banners remained.

The candidate had earlier raised the issue publicly in a post dated August 24, alleging that more than 50 of her campaign banners were taken away by LASAA officials accompanied by security personnel. Her account has since been referenced by several reports on the dispute.

The controversy has attracted calls for clarification from outside the NDC. National Daily reported that public affairs commentator Otunba Ademola Akinnola urged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to investigate the allegations and establish whether enforcement was being applied equally to opposition and ruling-party campaign materials.

The dispute comes as political activity gradually increases ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Adebayo is a medical doctor and ENT/head and neck surgeon who is seeking election to represent Surulere Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives. Her professional background is also independently documented by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

At this stage, the allegation of selective enforcement remains a claim by the NDC candidate. Reports reviewed for this story did not establish an independent finding that LASAA deliberately targeted her campaign because of her political affiliation.

The central issue is whether the removal of the banners was part of routine enforcement of Lagos signage regulations or whether opposition campaign materials were treated differently from those of other political actors.

The NDC candidate campaign banners dispute is therefore likely to remain under scrutiny as parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 election season.
