Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he is prepared to risk his life to defend his votes in the 2027 general election.
Obi made the statement during a town hall meeting with voters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he urged Nigerians not to allow intimidation or manipulation to determine the outcome of the next election.
The former Anambra State governor said voters must be prepared to protect their ballots at polling units, insisting that nobody should be allowed to scare citizens away from exercising their democratic rights.
According to Obi, the number of voters at many polling units is usually significantly higher than the number of officials present, making it possible for citizens to collectively resist attempts at intimidation.
He also expressed concerns about possible manipulation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the 2027 election.
Obi said his political team was already considering alternative arrangements to address possible network problems that could affect the electronic transmission and viewing of election results.
The NDC candidate urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and ensure that their votes are properly protected and counted, arguing that electoral irregularities should not be allowed to continue.
His comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obi’s declaration is expected to generate further debate about electoral security, voter intimidation and the credibility of the 2027 presidential election.
