Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has unveiled the Barau Kano North APC campaign council ahead of the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, with the new structure tasked with mobilising support for All Progressives Congress candidates across the senatorial district.
The campaign council covers Kano North Senatorial District, which comprises 13 local government areas. The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
According to details released through Barau’s media office, Engineer Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority and former Secretary to the Kano State Government, will chair the council.
Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Haruna Makoda, was named deputy chairman, while former Surveyor General of the Federation, Surveyor Nadu Yahaya, will serve as secretary.
Dr Kabiru Ado Zakirai, Ahmed Haruna Bichi and Idris Unguwar Rimi were appointed deputy secretaries I, II and III respectively.
Former House of Representatives member Farouk Lawan was named vice chairman I, while Saidu Garba Getso and Badamasi Ayuba will serve as vice chairmen II and III.
Alhaji Yusuf Tumfafi, a grassroots political organiser and one of Barau’s political aides, was appointed Director-General of the campaign council.
He will be assisted by Yusuf Yusuf Tabuka, Auwalu Ibrahim Danzabuwa, Ali Ado Bagwai and Ali Gumawa as deputy directors-general.
The campaign structure also provides for committees across the 13 local government areas in Kano North. The committees will include serving and former elected officials, APC executives, political appointees and other party stakeholders.
The local government areas covered by the structure include Shanono, Bagwai, Gwarzo, Kabo, Rimin Gado, Tofa, Dawakin Tofa, Bichi, Ghari, Tsanyawa, Dambatta, Makoda and Gabasawa.
Barau directed members of the campaign council to take the APC’s campaign to communities across the district and intensify grassroots mobilisation.
He also urged the team to communicate the achievements of the APC administration to voters and work towards securing support for the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
The move further consolidates Barau’s campaign structure in Kano North after he secured the APC ticket to seek another term in the Senate.
In May, the APC affirmed Barau as its candidate for Kano North Senatorial District after a primary exercise in Bichi. Premium Times reported that the sitting senator emerged unopposed, while the Voice of Nigeria also confirmed his endorsement for a fourth term.
The establishment of the campaign council signals the beginning of a more organised mobilisation effort in Kano North as the 2027 elections draw closer.
