Liverpool finally have something to celebrate.
Alexander Isak scored twice in just nine minutes as Isak Liverpool delivered a ruthless early blow to Ipswich Town, helping the Reds secure a 2-0 Premier League victory at Portman Road.
Liverpool entered the match under pressure after failing to win either of their opening two league games. That frustration disappeared almost instantly when Isak found the net in the sixth minute.
Three minutes later, the Sweden international struck again.
Cody Gakpo provided the assist for both goals, giving Liverpool a commanding advantage before Ipswich had time to recover.
Isak sends early warning
Isak’s rapid double changed the mood of the contest.
Liverpool had been criticised for their slow start to the campaign, but the visitors were clinical when their opportunities arrived.
According to Reuters, Isak’s two goals came within the opening nine minutes, putting Liverpool firmly in control.
Ipswich attempted to respond but could not find a route back into the game.
The hosts created opportunities as the match progressed, but Liverpool’s defence held firm to preserve the clean sheet.
Pressure eases on Iraola
The victory will also come as a relief to Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.
The Reds had opened their league campaign with two consecutive 2-2 draws, leaving them searching for their first three points.
That wait ended at Portman Road.
The result moved Liverpool to five points from three matches, while Ipswich remained on three points.
Liverpool’s new attacking threat?
Isak’s performance could also increase expectations around Liverpool’s attack.
After scoring in the previous league match against Nottingham Forest, the striker has now found the net in consecutive Premier League games.
His two-goal burst against Ipswich could prove particularly important as Liverpool attempt to build momentum under Iraola.
Liverpool also introduced new signing Bradley Barcola during the second half, giving supporters another glimpse of the attacking options available to the manager.
For Ipswich, however, the result represents another setback after a promising start to the season.
Liverpool have finally won — and Isak’s explosive nine-minute performance may have just changed the conversation around their season.
